University Community Church affirms the 1689 London Baptist Confession of Faith as our Statement of Faith, guiding our doctrine, discipleship, and mission.

 

1. The Holy Scriptures

We believe that the Bible, consisting of the Old and New Testaments, is the written Word of God, inspired by Him and without error in all that it teaches. The Bible is the final authority for faith, life, and ministry, fully sufficient to guide us in all matters of salvation and godly living (2 Tim. 3:16–17; 2 Pet. 1:20–21).

2. The One True God

We believe in one living and true God, who exists eternally in three Persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. These three are equal in power and glory, yet distinct in person. God is holy, loving, just, sovereign, merciful, and faithful in all His ways (Deut. 6:4; Matt. 28:19).

3. God’s Eternal Purpose

We believe that God, from eternity, sovereignly and wisely planned all things for His own glory, including the redemption of His people in Christ. God’s purposes do not violate human responsibility but display His grace and wisdom (Eph. 1:4–11; Rom. 11:36).

4. Creation and Providence

We believe that God created all things—from nothing—by His powerful word, and that He continues to uphold, govern, and sustain all creation according to His perfect will. Nothing happens by chance; all things are under God’s loving and sovereign care (Gen. 1; Col. 1:16–17).

5. The Fall of Humanity and Sin

We believe that humanity was created good and in God’s image, but through Adam’s disobedience, sin entered the world, bringing guilt, corruption, and death to all people. Every person is now born sinful in nature and unable to save themselves apart from God’s grace (Rom. 3:23; Rom. 5:12).

6. The Person and Work of Christ

We believe that Jesus Christ is fully God and fully man, the only Savior of sinners. He lived a sinless life, died on the cross as a substitute for His people, rose bodily from the dead, ascended to heaven, and now reigns as King and High Priest. Salvation is found in no one else (John 1:1,14; Acts 4:12).

7. Salvation by Grace Alone

We believe that salvation is entirely the work of God’s grace, received through faith alone in Christ alone. God saves sinners not because of their works, but because of His mercy. Those whom God saves, He also transforms by the Holy Spirit (Eph. 2:8–10; Titus 3:5).

8. Justification and Adoption

We believe that those who trust in Christ are: Justified, declared righteous before God through Christ’s righteousness, and Adopted—brought into God’s family as beloved children. This is a free and permanent gift of God’s grace (Rom. 5:1; Gal. 4:4–7).

9. Sanctification and the Christian Life

We believe that all true believers are being progressively transformed into Christ’s likeness by the power of the Holy Spirit. Good works do not save us, but they are the fruit of true faith. God’s moral law guides believers in thankful obedience (Phil. 2:12–13; Titus 2:11–14).

10. The Church

We believe that the universal Church is the body of all true believers in Christ. A local church is a gathered community of baptized believers who commit to worship, discipleship, fellowship, and mission under the authority of Scripture. Christ is the Head of the Church (Eph. 1:22–23; Acts 2:42).

11. Ordinances: Baptism and the Lord’s Supper

We believe that: Baptism is for believers only and is done by immersion as a public confession of faith in Christ. The Lord’s Supper is a regular remembrance of Christ’s sacrifice and a proclamation of His death until He returns. These ordinances do not save but strengthen faith through obedience (Matt. 28:19; 1 Cor. 11:23–26).

12. Church Leadership

We believe that Christ governs His church through elders (pastors) and deacons. Elders are responsible for teaching, shepherding, and oversight, while deacons serve the practical needs of the church. All leadership must meet biblical qualifications (1 Tim. 3; Titus 1).

13. Christian Liberty and Conscience

We believe that Christ has freed believers from the guilt and power of sin, and that Christians must live in liberty guided by love, Scripture, and the Holy Spirit, not by human traditions or legalism (Gal. 5:1,13).

14. Perseverance of the Saints

We believe that all who are truly saved will be kept by God’s power and will persevere in faith to the end. True believers may fall into sin but will be restored through repentance and God’s preserving grace (John 10:27–29; Phil. 1:6).

15. The Gospel and Mission

We believe that the church is called to proclaim the gospel to all nations, making disciples through preaching, teaching, baptism, and works of mercy. Every believer is a witness to Christ in word and life (Matt. 28:18–20; Acts 1:8).

16. The Return of Christ and Final Judgment

We believe that Jesus Christ will return personally and visibly to judge the living and the dead. The righteous will enter eternal life, and the wicked will face eternal judgment. God will make all things new for His glory (Rev. 20–21; 2 Cor. 5:10).

 

17. Stewardship and the Glory of God

We believe that all of life—including time, money, work, gifts, and relationships—belongs to God. Christians are called to live as faithful stewards for the glory of God and the good of others (1 Cor. 10:31; Matt. 25:14–30).
