Covenant
"For as in one body we have many members, and the members do not all have the same function, so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another.” - Romans 12:4-5 (ESV).
Membership Covenant
Having been brought by God’s grace to repent of my sin and trust in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, and having been baptized as a believer in obedience to Christ’s command, I joyfully affirm the following commitments as a member of University Community Church (UCC):
My Commitment to God and His Word
1. I affirm the Bible as God’s inspired, inerrant, and sufficient Word and commit to submit to its authority in all areas of life.
2. I will pursue an active and personal relationship with God through regular prayer, study of His Word, and obedience to His commands.
3. I will seek to grow in holiness and become more like Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit, putting sin to death daily.
My Commitment to My Church Family
4. I will faithfully gather with the UCC church family for worship, fellowship, prayer, and the teaching of God’s Word.
5. I will pursue loving, accountable relationships within the church, bearing burdens, offering forgiveness, and receiving correction in humility.
6. I will work to maintain the unity of the church by avoiding gossip, pursuing reconciliation, and honoring the leadership God has placed over us.
My Commitment to Service and Stewardship
7. I will use my spiritual gifts, time, and abilities to build up the body of Christ through regular service and participation in church life.
8. I will give cheerfully, generously, and regularly to support the mission, ministries, and needs of the church.
9. I will share in the responsibility of making disciples by engaging visitors, mentoring others, and helping people grow in Christ.
My Commitment to Mission and Evangelism
10. I will live as a witness for Christ in my everyday life, at home, work, school, and in the community.
11. I will support and engage in the mission of UCC to reach students, families, professionals, and the unreached (including the Ik people of Karamoja) with the gospel.
12. I will pray for and participate in the global advancement of the gospel, through local outreach and global missions.
My Commitment to Perseverance and Accountability
13. I will humbly seek help from my church family when I struggle in sin, and I will lovingly and gently restore others when they do the same.
14. I will submit to biblical church discipline when necessary, trusting in God’s love and the care of His people for my spiritual good.
15. If God leads me away from UCC, I will leave in peace and seek to unite with another faithful gospel-preaching church as soon as possible.
My Affirmation of Commitment
By God’s grace, I affirm this covenant as a joyful expression of my love for Jesus Christ and His body, the church. I enter into this covenant not alone, but with the strength of the Holy Spirit and the fellowship of believers.
“Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together... but encouraging one another.” — Hebrews 10:23–25 (ESV).
